This session provides a discussion about teen suicide prevention: heightened risk factors, signs that someone may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, what to say or do if concerned about oneself or a peer, and where and how to get help.
Let’s face it: suicide prevention is a challenging topic to focus on. The idea of young people having thoughts of ending their lives is alarming, and when youth die from suicide, it is profoundly tragic. It’s the second leading cause of death for 10-14 year olds and third for 15-19 year olds. Equipping teens with knowledge and tools can reduce stigma and help prevent loss of life.
This session provides a discussion about teen suicide prevention: heightened risk factors, signs that someone may be experiencing suicidal thoughts, what to say or do if concerned about oneself or a peer, and where and how to get help. A creative activity invites youth to spread prevention messages and share helplines. For use with Girls Circle, The Council for Boys and Young Men, or Unity Circle, and other group settings where safety has been established.
