Adolescence is a time of massive change and growth in the brain, body, identity, and social connections. Yet, when a teenager experiences loss and grief, adolescence can become a period of deep struggle with physical and mental anguish, as well as social isolation.
This supplemental session acknowledges loss of all kinds, normalizes responses, supports those who grieve, and offers Circle participants a creative activity to express the effects of their loss and ways to care for themselves and others with compassion and connection. It also provides a list of organizations focused on loss and grief and crisis hotlines and invites youth to consider any action they may want to take to support each other or others coping with grief. For use in Girls Circle, The Council for Boys and Young Men, or Unity Circle programs.
