How Facilitators Can Recharge and Reset for the New Year
As we wrap up the year, many people working in youth-serving spaces are doing what they always do: giving energy, care, and presence to the youth who count on them. It’s meaningful work, but let’s be honest, it can also be exhausting. Before stepping into a new year full of goals, Circles, and fresh possibilities, it’s important for facilitators to pause and refill our own cups.
Here are a few simple ways to reset and head into the new year feeling grounded and refreshed:
1. Slow down and rest
Rest isn’t one-size-fits-all. For some, it may look like sleeping in for a few days or taking a quiet walk. For others, it might mean setting an out-of-office message, spending time with loved ones, or allowing space with no agenda at all. What matters most is permitting yourself to not be “on” all the time.
Consider choosing one small, protected pocket of rest each week, an evening with 20 minutes unplugged, a screen-free morning, or even a two-minute dance break, and letting that time be just for you.
2. Reflect on what felt meaningful this year
Facilitators often move quickly from one Circle to the next without pausing to acknowledge the impact they’ve made. Taking time to reflect on meaningful moments, a powerful conversation, a moment of trust, or a small breakthrough, can reconnect you to why this work matters.
You might jot down one Circle moment that stayed with you this year or talk it through with a colleague or fellow facilitator. Returning to these moments can be grounding and affirming.
3. Step into the new year with intention, not pressure
The start of a new year doesn’t require having everything figured out. Instead of setting rigid resolutions, facilitators can choose one or two intentions that feel supportive and realistic. Intentions create space for growth without adding pressure or expectations.
An intention might look like practicing more patience with yourself, asking for support when you need it, or staying curious in your Circles. For some facilitators, that support may include joining OCF’s free monthly facilitator support
As we welcome a new year, let’s move forward with rest, clarity, and renewed energy. When facilitators take care of themselves, the impact ripples out into our Circles, our communities, and the youth they show up for every day.
Here’s to a grounded, rejuvenating start to 2026! You deserve it.
